Are people who go to private school smarter than those who go to public school? May 10, 2010

What a hard question. You simple cannot answer this with a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ as the next question would be “why?” followed by normal stuttering of “because……..[insert a quick and somewhat reasonable answer].

This question annoyed me a bit and forced me to use my brain, in attempt to find a logical answer that expressed all possible outcomes and situations on who are more intelligent public school students or private school students. This question came about on whether private school students were offer more subjects or why only students from private school were interested in politics. To be honest I was not listening at all.

The main response I got was “yes because since you’re paying that amount of money you expect to get a really good education” (it was only three of us) and then followed by “my brother goes to private school and his really smart, he got A* for all of his GCSE’s, I could never do that.” This was interesting because I sat there and thought but you’re really smart you could have easily done that if given the opportunity to do it again.

This got me thinking, “is there too much emphasis on having the perfect grades and having quality education?” because I thought and still believe that no matter which school you go to you can always get the perfect grades (B and above) so long as you take it into your own hands to learn want you can’t. But now I’m digressing if you have any comments on this then please post a comment down below!!!!

Now for my answer to this question, there are four main factors to consider on the public education vs. private education:

  1. The teachers, for them to stay in a public school are they paid enough? Do they have the right and significant amount of resources? Are they comfortable, safe or secure in their environment?
  2. Money will always be a problem, and the question is there enough to pay the teachers and provide the resources to make education fun again?
  3. The pupils, is there an issues with large classes i.e. a class of 30? Are there problems with basic rules i.e. jogging bottoms used as trousers?
  4. The school, can the school be selective? Can the school take the necessary actions in dealing with ‘troublesome’ students?

There are many other things to consider, as in some cases, a public school might out perform a private school, and if you won’t be even more realistic no one actual cares, as were all going to end up doing the same jobs. In addition just because you go to private does not mean your smart, academic wise yes to an extent but in life when you have to deal with people not so much.

But then again it is an opinion.

Thanks for reading my first drabble.
